**India Ascends to Fourth Largest Economy, Overtaking Japan, Says NITI Aayog CEO**
**NEW DELHI – [Date]** – India has officially become the world’s fourth largest economy, surpassing Japan, according to NITI Aayog CEO BVR Subrahmanyam. Speaking after the 10th Governing Council meeting of NITI Aayog on Saturday, Mr. Subrahmanyam stated that the current geopolitical and economic climate is highly advantageous for India.
“We are the fourth largest economy as I speak. We are a USD 4 trillion economy as I speak,” he declared, citing data from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). He further projected that India could become the world’s third largest economy within the next 2.5 to 3 years, provided current plans and strategies are successfully implemented. Currently, only the United States, China, and Germany hold larger economies than India.
When asked about recent comments from former U.S. President Donald Trump regarding Apple’s manufacturing locations, Mr. Subrahmanyam emphasized India’s competitive advantage. “What the tariff will be, is uncertain. Given the dynamics, we will be [a] cheap place to manufacture,” he stated.
Mr. Subrahmanyam also announced that a second phase of asset monetization is currently in development and is expected to be unveiled in August.
