Sat May 24 19:50:00 UTC 2025: **Kullu Flash Floods Damage Dozens of Vehicles; Heavy Rain Alert Issued**
**Kullu, Himachal Pradesh** – Flash floods triggered by heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district on Saturday evening damaged an estimated 20 to 25 vehicles parked along the roadside. The incident occurred near Jagat Khana in Nirmand, where the usually dry Sharshaya Nallah swelled rapidly, sweeping away vehicles and causing significant damage, according to Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Nirmand Manmohan Singh. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported.
Videos circulating on social media depict the severity of the flooding, showing vehicles being carried away by the powerful currents. While local residents initially attributed the incident to a cloudburst, local authorities are citing heavy rainfall as the primary cause.
The heavy rains have also caused disruptions to transportation. The Hindustan-Tibet Road, National Highway-5, is currently blocked at Jhakri, located between Rampur and Kinnaur, due to debris falling from the hills. In addition, the water level of the Satluj River has risen significantly.
The local meteorological center has issued a ‘yellow’ warning for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds, with speeds ranging from 40 to 50 kilometers per hour (kmph) across all 12 districts of Himachal Pradesh for May 27 and 28. The warning is specifically in place for Sirmaur, Solan, Shimla, Mandi, Kullu, Kangra, and Chamba districts for May 25 and 26.
A wet weather pattern is expected to persist for the next six days, with the possibility of light rainfall in higher altitude areas and light to moderate rain in mid-hill and plain regions on May 27 and 28.
In the past 24 hours, Rohru recorded the highest rainfall at 10 mm, followed by Jubbarhatti (2.6 mm), Jubbal (2.4 mm), and Chamba (2 mm). Gusty winds, reaching speeds of 37 to 56 kmph, were recorded in Reckongpeo, Tabo, Kotkhai, Bahaura, Seobag, and Narkanda.
While minimum and maximum temperatures remained relatively stable, Una recorded the highest temperature in the state at 39.2 degrees Celsius, while Keylong experienced the lowest at 7.3 degrees Celsius.
