**Gaza Devastation Continues: Israeli Strikes Claim More Lives Amidst Worsening Humanitarian Crisis**

**Gaza City, Palestinian Territories – May 24, 2025** – Renewed Israeli military operations in Gaza have resulted in a devastating loss of life and exacerbated an already dire humanitarian situation, according to reports from Gaza’s civil defense agency and health officials. At least 15 Palestinians were killed on Saturday in strikes across the territory, which has seen a surge in military activity in recent days.

Among the casualties were a couple and their two young children, killed in a pre-dawn strike on their home in Khan Younis. Another strike, allegedly from a drone, targeted a crowd waiting for aid trucks west of the city, killing at least five.

The situation has garnered international attention after it was reported that nine of a doctor’s ten children were killed in a strike on her home while she was working at Nasser Hospital. The mother, Alaa Najjar, a pediatrician, arrived home to find her house on fire. Her husband was severely wounded, and their 11-year-old son is in critical condition.

Wissam Al-Madhoun, a relative of victims of an earlier strike, lamented the loss of innocent lives, questioning the justification for targeting civilians, “We found them lying in the street. What did this child do to (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu?”

The Israeli military stated it could not comment on specific strikes without precise coordinates. However, they said that the air force had struck over 100 targets in the past day, including alleged terrorist operatives, military infrastructure, and underground routes. Regarding the doctor’s children, the military claimed to have targeted suspects in a structure near its forces in a “dangerous war zone” and stated the harm to civilians is “under review.”

The renewed Israeli offensive began on March 18, ending a two-month ceasefire. The Gaza Health Ministry reports at least 3,747 Palestinians have been killed since then, bringing the total death toll of the conflict to 53,901, mostly civilians. Hamas’s October 2023 attack on Israel resulted in the deaths of 1,218 Israelis and the taking of 251 hostages, 57 of whom remain in Gaza, including 34 presumed dead.

The United Nations chief, António Guterres, described the current situation as the “cruellest phase” of the war, highlighting the widespread shortages of food and medicine due to the Israeli blockade. While limited aid deliveries have resumed, the World Food Programme reported that 15 of its trucks were looted on Thursday, citing rising insecurity due to hunger and desperation.

Adding to the crisis, the Gaza City municipality warned of a potential water crisis as damaged infrastructure and rising temperatures threaten supplies.

This latest escalation has renewed calls for a ceasefire and increased humanitarian aid to alleviate the suffering of the Gazan population.
