**SAN FRANCISCO, CA –** Crunchyroll has announced that the critically acclaimed anime series “Attack on Titan” will be the first-ever recipient of the Global Impact Award at the 2025 Crunchyroll Anime Awards. The award, designed to recognize visionary creators and works that have significantly influenced culture and resonated deeply with global audiences, will be presented at the ceremony on Sunday, May 25th.
Based on the globally bestselling manga series of the same name by Hajime Isayama, “Attack on Titan” premiered in 2014 and captivated audiences worldwide with its compelling narrative, striking visuals, and thought-provoking themes. The series, published by Kodansha, has sold over 140 million copies of its manga worldwide. Crunchyroll noted that “Attack on Titan” enjoyed consistent critical acclaim, with multiple seasons achieving perfect critic scores and over 90% audience scores on Rotten Tomatoes. The anime concluded with the final film, “Attack on Titan: The Last Attack” in late 2024.
“The Crunchyroll Anime Awards is our yearly celebration of the creative community in Japan and the actors around the world who are powering the global love of anime,” said Gita Rebbapragada, Chief Operating Officer of Crunchyroll. “This year, we’re proud to introduce the new Global Impact Award. Recent research highlights the profound impact of anime, particularly on Gen Z, with nearly 40% of teen fans considering anime a meaningful part of their identity.”
According to Crunchyroll, the Global Impact Award “may be awarded yearly to honor works and visionary creatives who have produced the anime series changing popular culture.” A representative from animation studio MAPPA, the studio behind the later seasons of “Attack on Titan,” will accept the award on behalf of the numerous creators involved in the series’ production.
The 2025 Crunchyroll Anime Awards will premiere on Sunday, May 25th, at 5:00 PM Japan Standard Time and will be available to livestream on Crunchyroll’s YouTube and Twitch channels, as well as on Sony Pictures Core and the Sony Group Corp. Global and Japan YouTube Channels.
