**Jon Stewart Fears For The Daily Show’s Future Amid Trump’s Lawsuit Against CBS News**
NEW YORK, NY – Comedian Jon Stewart has voiced concerns about the future of his show, “The Daily Show,” amidst former President Donald Trump’s $20 billion lawsuit against CBS News and its parent company, Paramount Global.
Stewart, in an interview on “The Bill Simmons Podcast,” slammed Trump’s lawsuit, which alleges election interference stemming from a “60 Minutes” interview with then-Vice President Kamala Harris, as a thinly veiled attempt to intimidate corporations into aligning with his agenda.
“But what you’re seeing now is, all must pay tribute to the king,” Stewart stated, accusing other corporate leaders of offering Trump “protection money” to avoid scrutiny. He pointed to alleged past payments from other media companies and tech moguls as examples.
Stewart fears that if Trump succeeds in the lawsuit against Paramount, it could jeopardize the future of “The Daily Show.” “I’m comfortable hosting The Daily Show on Monday nights up until, you know, the company is bought out by people that don’t want anything to do with ‘The Daily Show.’ And then who the f— knows what’s going to happen,” he said.
The legal battle has already prompted unease within CBS News, evidenced by the recent departure of “60 Minutes” executive producer Bill Owens. Trump and Paramount have entered mediation, raising the specter of a potential settlement that could further impact the media landscape.
Stewart defended CBS’s editing of the Harris interview, dismissing Trump’s claims of libel and slander as baseless. He fears the lawsuit could set a dangerous precedent, potentially leading to the erosion of media independence.
“So ultimately, at the end of this, does Trump burn our f—— country down for insurance money? Like where are we headed?” Stewart questioned, expressing deep concern about the future of the media and the country.
