**IIT-Madras Mathematics Department Earns Silver Recognition from Casualty Actuarial Society**

**Chennai, May 24, 2025** – The Mathematics Department of the Indian Institute of Technology-Madras (IIT-M) has been awarded silver-level recognition by the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) under its University Recognition Programme. This prestigious award acknowledges the department’s excellence in preparing students for careers in property and casualty insurance risk management.

The IIT-M Mathematics Department offers a comprehensive curriculum including undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs in mathematics, statistics, and financial modeling. Professor Neelesh S. Upadhye highlighted that the recognition celebrates the department’s strong foundation in areas crucial to modern actuarial science, such as stochastic processes, regression, financial mathematics, and data analytics.
