Fri May 23 00:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Dream Edge Out Fever in Thrilling Finish, Clark Makes History in Loss
**INDIANAPOLIS, IN -** In a nail-biting contest at Gainbridge Fieldhouse Tuesday night, the Atlanta Dream narrowly defeated the Indiana Fever 91-90, handing Caitlin Clark and her team their first loss of the 2025 WNBA season. A go-ahead free throw from Atlanta’s Rhyne Howard with just 9.1 seconds remaining proved to be the difference maker, despite a furious late-game rally from the Fever.
The game, attended by notable figures including Masters champion Bubba Watson and NASCAR champion Kyle Larson, saw the Fever trailing by as many as 11 points entering the fourth quarter. However, fueled by two clutch three-pointers from Clark and a dominant performance from Aaliyah Boston (24 points, 10 rebounds), the Fever clawed their way back into contention, taking a 90-89 lead with 21.7 seconds left.
But the Dream, led by Brittney Griner’s 21 points and Howard’s 20, responded swiftly. After Howard’s go-ahead free throw, Indiana’s Natasha Howard had two chances to secure the win but was denied by a block and an unlucky bounce off the rim.
Despite the loss, Caitlin Clark delivered a historic performance, racking up a game-high 27 points and 11 assists. This performance marks her record-breaking game for most 25-point, 10-assist games in WNBA history.
“Yes, this stinks. We wanted to win this game, but this is great for our team,” Clark said after the game. “A little adversity – how are we going to respond? We have a chance to go there and play them (again). We can get a little redemption if we go down there and play well… I have to give my team a lot of credit; we never gave up. We found a way to get back in it.”
However, not everyone was pleased with the overall effort. Indiana’s Kelsey Mitchell, who contributed 24 points, voiced concerns over the team’s discipline and awareness. “Today, we failed miserably as a group because there were certain things set in stone for us to be effective from quarter one to quarter four,” Mitchell said, highlighting the need for improvement.
Brionna Jones also contributed 19 points and 13 rebounds for the Dream, who will look to replicate their success as they host the Fever again on Thursday night at State Farm Arena in Atlanta. The Fever will be seeking to bounce back and avenge this narrow defeat.
