BALTIMORE (AP) — The Minnesota Twins continued their impressive run, securing their ninth consecutive victory with a 6-3 win against the Baltimore Orioles in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader on Wednesday.
The Orioles initially took a 3-0 lead in the third inning, highlighted by Gunnar Henderson’s two-run home run. However, the Twins responded emphatically in the fourth. Brooks Lee sparked the rally with a leadoff homer, followed by Christian Vázquez’s three-run blast, his first of the season, putting Minnesota ahead.
Trevor Larnach added an RBI double in the ninth, later scoring on a wild pitch to extend the lead. Relief pitcher Brock Stewart earned the win, while Jhoan Duran closed out the game for his eighth save. The Twins overcame four errors in the game.
The game wasn’t without its drama. Twins first baseman Ty France exited the game in the fifth with a left foot contusion. Orioles outfielder Ramón Laureano was ejected for spiking his helmet after a controversial strikeout call. The Orioles had opportunities late, but Byron Buxton’s sliding catch in the seventh and a strikeout in the eighth stymied their comeback efforts.
The Orioles had yet to announce a starter for the second game of the doubleheader. Simeon Woods Richardson will be on the mound for the Twins.
