**Land Acquisition Delays Threaten Railway Projects in Telangana, Warns Union Minister**
**HYDERABAD, May 22, 2025** – Union Minister of Coal & Mines G. Kishan Reddy today called on the Telangana government to accelerate land acquisition for several crucial railway projects, warning that delays are hindering progress despite significant central government investment. Reddy’s remarks came during the re-launch of the redeveloped Begumpet railway station, inaugurated virtually by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Begumpet station revamp cost ₹26.55 crore.
Reddy emphasized that the Centre has allocated substantial funds to Telangana’s railway infrastructure, with ₹5,337 crore earmarked in the current budget and ongoing works totaling approximately ₹42,219 crore. “The Centre has granted many projects for Telangana running into thousands of crores, but some of them got delayed as the requisite land is yet to be handed over by the State Government,” Reddy stated. Specific projects facing setbacks include the approach road for the newly constructed Cherlapalli terminal station and the Secunderabad redevelopment project.
Despite the challenges, Reddy highlighted the completion of the ₹1000 crore MMTS phase two project and the upcoming Yadagirigutta extension line, estimated at ₹400 crore. He also announced the opening of a new station dedicated to Komuravelli Mallanna devotees during this year’s Dussehra.
The Prime Minister also virtually inaugurated the redeveloped Karimnagar (₹25.85 crore) and Warangal (₹25.42 crore) stations. These three are part of the Amrut Bharat station scheme, which will modernize 40 stations at a cost of ₹2,750 crore.
In addition to station upgrades, South Central Railway (SCR) has made significant improvements to safety and connectivity, including the removal of 121 unmanned level crossings, the construction of 203 new road under bridges, 43 road over bridges, and 45 foot over bridges. WiFi has been installed at 174 stations.
Reddy also noted progress on the ₹580 crore wagon manufacturing factory in Kazipet, crediting the central government for its persistence despite past lack of cooperation.
The Union Minister urged the Telangana government to prioritize land handover to ensure timely completion of these vital railway projects.
