Thu May 22 12:10:00 UTC 2025: **Headline: Dozens Killed in Gaza as Limited Aid Arrives Amidst Ongoing Israeli Attacks**

**Gaza Strip** – At least 51 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip since dawn on Thursday, according to medical sources. The renewed violence comes as a trickle of humanitarian aid enters the besieged territory after Israel eased its total blockade earlier this week.

Medical sources reported that 25 of the deaths occurred in Gaza City and northern areas of the Strip. One particularly deadly strike in the al-Baraka area of Deir el-Balah, central Gaza, killed at least 10 people, including nine members of the same family, according to the Palestinian news agency Wafa. Another attack on the Bakhit family home in as-Saftawi, northwest Gaza, resulted in five fatalities.

In Beit Lahiya, a tank shell struck a medicine warehouse inside Al-Awda Hospital, sparking a fire that rescue workers battled for hours. Medics report that tanks stationed outside the hospital are effectively blocking access.

The United Nations confirmed that approximately 90 trucks carrying humanitarian supplies, including medicine, wheat flour, and nutrition supplies, have entered Gaza since Israel began allowing limited goods. However, UN spokesperson Jens Laerke cited insecurity, the risk of looting, and coordination issues with Israeli authorities as significant challenges to distribution.

While some bakeries have resumed operations following the arrival of aid, the Gaza Government Media Office emphasized that the supplies are a “trickle” compared to the territory’s vast needs. Food aid has yet to reach northern Gaza, where thousands of civilians are also under siege.

The UN is demanding that Israel allow at least 500 aid trucks into Gaza daily, following more than 80 days of a near-total blockade. Half a million people in the Gaza Strip, or one in five, are facing starvation, according to the UN, and the entire population remains at critical risk of famine.

Pope Leo XIV described the situation in Gaza as “worrying and painful,” urging for the “entry of sufficient humanitarian aid.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently announced plans for a new aid system in Gaza, which has faced international criticism. He also stated Israel intends to create a “sterile zone” in Gaza, free of Hamas, where relocated residents would receive supplies.

Since Israel resumed strikes on March 18th, at least 3,509 people have been killed in Gaza, according to the Gaza health ministry. Since October 2023, when Israel launched its assault on Gaza, at least 53,655 have been killed according to Palestinian health authorities.
