Thu May 22 10:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Grizzly Bear Relocated Near Yellowstone After Cattle Depredation
**CODY, Wyo. -** The Wyoming Game and Fish Department (WGFD) relocated an adult male grizzly bear on Friday, May 16th, after it was captured for preying on cattle on private land near Cody. This marks the second grizzly relocation this spring due to livestock depredation.
The bear was released in the Glade Creek drainage, approximately 2.5 miles south of Yellowstone National Park, in cooperation with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. This follows a similar relocation on May 2nd, where another adult male grizzly was moved from the Cody region to the Ghost Creek drainage, about 60 miles northwest of Cody.
According to WGFD, relocating grizzlies is a crucial part of managing Wyoming’s growing bear population and preventing conflicts between bears and humans. While bears deemed a direct threat to human safety are often removed from the population, relocations are used for issues like livestock depredation and habituated roadside behavior.
WGFD reminds the public of their role in responsible bear management. Residents are urged to secure all potential attractants, including food, trash, horse feed, and bird seed, to minimize encounters and prevent future conflicts. More information on grizzly bear management can be found on WGFD’s Bear Wise Wyoming webpage.
