**Tirunelveli Farmers, Students Seek District Collector’s Intervention in Payment, Fraud Cases**
**TIRUNELVELI, May 19, 2025** – District Collector R. Sukumar is facing pressure from multiple groups seeking his intervention in separate financial disputes. Farmers in Tirunelveli district have filed a petition regarding delayed payments for paddy sold to Union government Direct Procurement Centres (DPCs). According to the farmers, the State government pays promptly at its DPCs, but they have been waiting for over two months for payments from the Union government centers in Kuppaikurichi, Keezhapaattam, Mela Seval, Ariyakulam and Naththam.
“Around 300 farmers have been waiting indefinitely,” said Thalavai, a farmer, urging the Collector to expedite the payments.
In a separate matter, students of a private training center are alleging fraud after the institute shut down shortly after they paid their course fees. The students, who were enrolled in a six-month certificate program at a branch in Vannarpet, say the branch manager and her associate closed the office without warning.
“After collecting the fee from us…the office was closed down without any intimation to the students,” said P. Abdullah, one of the affected students. They contacted the head office, only to learn that their fees had not been remitted. The students are appealing to the Collector to help them recover their money.
The District Collector’s office has yet to issue a statement on either case.
