Sun May 18 15:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Delhi Capitals Bolstered by Du Plessis Return, Dealt Blows by Starc and Ferreira Exits
**New Delhi, India -** The Delhi Capitals (DC) have received a mixed bag of news as they enter a critical phase of the IPL 2025 season. Veteran South African batter Faf du Plessis is set to rejoin the squad, providing much-needed experience as the team fights for a playoff berth. Du Plessis, purchased for Rs 2 crore in the auction, had previously played six matches, scoring 168 runs.
However, the good news is tempered by the departure of key players. Australian pace spearhead Mitchell Starc, who has been instrumental in the bowling attack with 14 wickets in 11 matches, and South African batter Donovan Ferreira have both decided not to rejoin the team.
The absence of Starc is a significant blow to Delhi’s bowling attack. While Ferreira’s absence is less impactful, it further thins the team’s resources.
To compensate, South African Tristan Stubbs has been drafted in for the final league games. However, Stubbs will be unavailable for the playoffs if DC qualifies due to his World Test Championship Final commitments.
Further strengthening the bowling department, Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman will be available between May 18 and 24 after receiving a No Objection Certificate from his national board.
Meanwhile, Marcus Stoinis and Josh Inglis are set to join Punjab Kings, however the duo will miss the May 18 clash against Rajasthan Royals.
Delhi Capitals, led by Axar Patel, face must-win games against Gujarat Titans (May 18), Mumbai Indians (May 21), and Punjab Kings (May 24). Du Plessis’ return adds vital experience, but the team must overcome the absence of Starc and Ferreira to keep their playoff dreams alive. The next three matches will be crucial in determining whether Delhi Capitals can make it to knockouts or not.
