**Ahmedabad, Gujarat – May 16, 2025** – Three workers died today after inhaling toxic gases while cleaning a septic tank at a jeans washing unit in Ahmedabad’s Danilimda area. The incident occurred in the morning as the workers were preparing the unit for reopening after a period of closure.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Y.A. Gohil, the deceased have been identified as Prakash Parmar, Vishal Thakor, and Sunil Rathva. Police reports indicate that one worker initially collapsed upon entering the underground tank. In an attempt to assist him, the other two workers entered the tank and were also immediately overcome by the fumes.
“Our probe revealed that one worker fell unconscious after he entered the tank, and the others followed to see what had happened to him. The trio was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared them dead,” Gohil stated.
Authorities believe the deaths were caused by asphyxiation due to the presence of toxic gases within the confined space of the septic tank. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.
A First Information Report (FIR) will be filed against the contractor and the factory owner for causing death by negligence. Police are investigating the lack of safety equipment provided to the workers.
The incident has sparked outrage over workplace safety standards in Gujarat’s industrial sector. Authorities are expected to launch a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
