Mon May 12 10:04:26 UTC 2025: ## India to Launch Advanced Earth Observation Satellite
**Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh –** India is set to launch its latest Earth observation satellite, EOS-09, on May 18th, significantly enhancing its all-weather surveillance capabilities. The launch, scheduled for 5:59 a.m. from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, will be witnessed by a delegation of over two dozen members of Parliament from the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science and Technology.
EOS-09, weighing approximately 1,710 kg, is equipped with a C-band synthetic aperture radar. This technology allows the satellite to capture high-resolution images regardless of weather conditions or time of day. The data gathered will be crucial for various applications, including agricultural monitoring, forestry management, disaster response, urban planning, and national security.
The satellite, a successor to RISAT-1 with a similar configuration, will complement existing Earth observation assets like Resourcesat, Cartosat, and RISAT-2B, providing expanded real-time coverage across India’s vast territory. Following the launch, the parliamentary delegation will visit a science and technology institute in Tirupati. The EOS-09 launch underscores India’s continued investment in and advancement of its space program.
