Tue May 13 00:51:46 UTC 2025: ## Andhra Pradesh Aims to Reinstate Tribal Reservation Policy
**Vijayawada, May 13, 2025** – Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has pledged to reinstate a policy guaranteeing 100% reservation for local tribal communities in government jobs within Agency areas. This commitment follows the 2020 Supreme Court quashing of G.O. No. 3, a 2000 policy that provided this reservation.
The Chief Minister held a review meeting on Monday, directing officials to explore all legal avenues to restore the benefits previously offered under G.O. No. 3. He criticized the previous YSRCP government for its perceived inaction, citing a missed opportunity to file a timely review petition and subsequent dismissal of the appeal due to government negligence.
Mr. Naidu acknowledged the complexity of the issue, noting that while G.O. No. 3, which stemmed from a 1986 policy for teacher reservations, ultimately secured jobs for 4,626 tribal candidates, legal challenges resulted in its overturning.
The government is currently evaluating three potential solutions: maintaining the 100% reservation, implementing proportional reservation based on the tribal population, or adhering to the Supreme Court’s suggestion of a maximum 50% reservation while ensuring tribal rights are protected. The Chief Minister stressed the importance of consulting tribal associations and conducting a comprehensive legal study of Supreme Court precedents to inform their actions. He reiterated his election promise to either reinstate G.O. No. 3 or provide equivalent justice to the tribal communities.
