Tue May 13 01:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Kanpur Braces for Scorching Heatwave

**Kanpur, UP (India):** Kanpur and the Gangetic plains are bracing for a significant heatwave, with temperatures expected to soar to 43°C and potentially higher. The change is attributed to dry winds blowing in from the Thar Desert in Rajasthan.

According to Prof. S.N. Sunil Pandey, a meteorologist at Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, Kanpur, the heat index has already risen to 58°C, up from 55°C on Saturday. While Monday saw a slight dip in maximum temperature (39°C compared to Sunday’s 40.8°C), the minimum temperature rose to 28°C. Winds are currently blowing from the north-west at an average speed of 7.6 km/h.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts that the heatwave will continue for the next five days, with a possibility of light to moderate cloud cover and occasional dust storms. Residents are advised to take precautions against the extreme heat, and the possibility of heatstroke is high. The IMD predicts that a heatwave will likely impact the Kanpur region and the Gangetic plains in the upcoming week.
