**New Delhi, May 12, 2025** – The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave alert for several states across the country, with temperatures expected to climb above 40°C in some areas starting May 13th. The warning covers Delhi-NCR, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh.
Delhi-NCR is already experiencing a significant temperature rise, with forecasts predicting highs of 38-40°C on May 13th and potentially reaching 42-44°C with heatwave conditions from May 14th-17th. Wind speeds are expected to be moderate (15-35 km/h) on the 13th, but will lessen as the heat intensifies.
Bihar has issued a yellow alert for eight districts, including Patna, anticipating temperatures 5°C above normal. Uttar Pradesh also anticipates a 2-4°C temperature increase, raising concerns about heatstroke.
Madhya Pradesh is expected to see temperatures between 38-41°C on May 13th, with a similar forecast for Chhattisgarh, potentially reaching 40°C in major cities like Raipur, Bilaspur, and Durg.
The IMD warns that there is no significant rainfall predicted for these regions until at least May 25th, indicating a prolonged period of intense heat. Citizens are urged to take necessary precautions to protect themselves from the heatwave.
