Mon May 12 16:55:15 UTC 2025: ## India and Pakistan Agree to Troop Reduction After Ceasefire
**NEW DELHI, May 13, 2025** – Following a tense standoff triggered by Pakistani aggression, India and Pakistan have agreed to reduce troop levels along their shared border. This decision, announced late Monday, follows several days of intense military activity codenamed “Operation Sindoor” by India. The agreement was reached during a hotline conversation between the two countries’ Director-Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs). Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to a ceasefire, initially agreed upon on May 10th, although this was briefly violated by Pakistan.
The agreement builds on the May 10th ceasefire, which, while initially breached, largely held throughout Sunday night. The Indian military confirmed that while some minor damage was sustained during Operation Sindoor, all military bases and systems remain fully operational.
A press conference featuring the DGMO, the Director General Air Operations (DGAO), and the DG Naval Operations highlighted India’s effective defense against Pakistani drone and missile attacks. Air Marshal A.K. Bharti, DGAO, praised the performance of both modern and older air defense systems, including indigenous Akash missiles, in successfully neutralizing the threat. He specifically noted the seamless synergy between the three branches of the Indian armed forces.
Vice Admiral A.N. Pramod, DG Naval Operations, emphasized the Indian Navy’s Carrier Battle Group’s (CBG) role in containing Pakistani air power, preventing it from operating freely in the maritime space. He cited the CBG’s presence, including MiG-29K fighters and airborne early warning helicopters, as crucial in maintaining control.
The successful defense, according to the officials, was a testament to years of investment in modernizing India’s defense capabilities and the lessons learned from a previous Pakistan-sponsored terrorist attack in Pahalgam. The officials stressed that despite the recent escalation, India remains prepared for any further contingencies.
