Mon May 12 13:26:19 UTC 2025: ## Construction Engineers Protest Soaring Material Costs in Krishnagiri

**Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu, May 12, 2025** – Construction engineers in Krishnagiri and Hosur staged a day-long token strike and protest on Monday, demanding government intervention to curb rising construction material costs. The Federation of All Construction Engineers Associations of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry led the demonstration, joined by several other industry bodies including the Real Estate Developers Association of India and Builders Association of India.

The protest focused on the significant price hikes imposed by quarries and crushers for materials like M-Sand, P-Sand, and gravel. The Federation urged the government to take over the quarries and crushers, arguing this would increase government revenue while ensuring affordable construction materials for the public. They also called for the reopening of river sand quarrying to meet the growing demand.

Further demands included the establishment of a regulatory authority to control construction costs, a reduction in the 28% GST on construction materials, and government intervention to stabilize the prices of cement and steel rods. Protesters questioned the price increases given that fuel and power costs remain unchanged.
