**Chennai, May 10, 2025** – The Madras High Court has ordered the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) to adhere to strict conditions for its Chithirai Full Moon Vanniyar Youth Conference scheduled for May 11th near Mahabalipuram. The court’s decision follows concerns about potential large-scale violence, echoing similar incidents at a 2013 conference.
Justice N. Mala and G. Arul Murugan, presiding over the Division Bench, directed the PMK president to submit an affidavit assuring compliance with both court and police directives. The court acted on a public interest litigation (PIL) petition expressing concerns about potential unrest.
While the Superintendent of Police had already granted permission for the conference, subject to 42 conditions, the court added further restrictions. These include a strict time limit (4 pm to 10 pm), a ban on weapons and military-style uniforms, and a prohibition against speeches or actions that could incite religious or caste tensions. The court also mandated that vehicles must obtain passes and avoid the East Coast Road.
The Inspector General of Police (North Zone) will monitor the event to ensure adherence to these conditions. The court expressed satisfaction with the police’s precautionary measures, aiming to ensure a peaceful and incident-free conference.
