ISLAMABAD — Pakistan has indefinitely postponed its Pakistan Super League (PSL) Twenty20 cricket tournament due to escalating military tensions with India. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced the postponement Friday evening, citing advice from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The decision comes after an Indian drone crashed near a Rawalpindi cricket stadium hours before a PSL match featuring numerous international players from countries including New Zealand, Australia, the West Indies, South Africa, and England.

The PCB had initially planned to relocate the remaining matches to Dubai, UAE, to address safety concerns raised by foreign players and their families. However, the decision was later reversed, with no indication of when or if the tournament will resume. The postponement affects the remaining matches scheduled in Rawalpindi, Multan, and Lahore.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who also serves as Pakistan’s interior minister, held meetings with foreign players and PSL franchise owners before the final decision. The statement released by the PCB emphasized its concern for the mental well-being of players and respect for the anxieties of their families.

The PSL, now in its tenth edition, has previously been held in the UAE. The Indian Premier League also announced a one-week suspension Friday, reflecting similar concerns about regional tensions. The postponement leaves the fate of the PSL season, currently led by Quetta Gladiators, uncertain.
