Fri May 09 23:40:00 UTC 2025: ## India-Pakistan Border Tensions Escalate Amidst Cross-Border Attacks and Blackouts

**New Delhi, May 10, 2025** – India and Pakistan are experiencing a significant escalation in border tensions, with Pakistan launching multiple cross-border attacks using drones and small arms fire throughout Friday evening. The attacks targeted several sectors in Jammu and Kashmir, including Uri, Kupwara, Poonch, and Nowshera. The Indian armed forces responded swiftly and effectively to these attacks.

The heightened tensions led to blackouts and the sounding of sirens in several Indian cities, including Jaisalmer, Uri, Panchkula (Haryana), and Firozpur (Punjab). Similar alerts and blackouts were implemented in Jammu and Akhnoor. A high alert has been issued across the Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Gujarat borders.

In response to the escalating threat, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has taken the significant step of temporarily closing 28 major airports across northern and western India from May 10th to 15th as part of Operation Sindhoor, a defensive measure against potential aerial attacks. This closure has resulted in the cancellation of at least 138 flights from Delhi alone. Airport security measures across the country have been significantly tightened. The closure has since been extended until May 15th morning.

The Indian Army successfully intercepted and neutralized several Pakistani drones attempting incursions in Samba and Pathankot sectors.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri addressed the press, confirming the attacks on multiple locations within India on May 8th and condemning Pakistan’s official denial of involvement as a “blatant lie.” He highlighted Pakistan’s duplicitous actions, targeting both civilian areas and military installations.

The situation remains critical, with both countries maintaining a high state of alert. Further developments are expected.
