Thu May 08 18:09:56 UTC 2025: ## Israel Issues Strongest Warning Yet to Iran After Houthi Airport Attack

**Jerusalem, May 8, 2025** – Israel issued its strongest threat yet to Iran on Thursday, vowing retaliatory action following a Houthi rebel attack on Ben Gurion airport. Defense Minister Israel Katz declared the “proxy system is terminated” and the “axis of evil has collapsed,” promising that Iran would face consequences similar to those inflicted on Hezbollah in Beirut and Hamas in Gaza.

The Houthi attack, claimed by the rebels as solidarity with Palestinians, prompted immediate Israeli airstrikes targeting Sanaa airport and Yemeni power stations. While Iran denies supporting the Houthi attack, Israel holds Iran directly responsible for arming and financing the group.

This escalation marks the first direct confrontation between Iran and Israel since the October 2023 Hamas attack on Israel, which triggered a devastating war in Gaza. The Hamas attack resulted in the deaths of 1,218 Israelis, mostly civilians, and the abduction of 251 people, 58 of whom remain held captive. The Israeli retaliation in Gaza has reportedly killed at least 52,653 people, largely civilians, according to the Hamas-run health ministry.

Amidst the ongoing conflict, a ceasefire agreement between the United States and the Houthis, brokered by Oman, aims to ensure freedom of navigation in the Red Sea. However, the Houthis have vowed to continue targeting Israeli interests despite the truce. The situation remains highly volatile, with the potential for further escalation between Iran and Israel.
