Fri May 09 23:40:00 UTC 2025: ## India Repels Pakistani Drone Attacks Across Border, Claims Major Losses

**NEW DELHI, May 9, 2025** – The Indian government held a press briefing today detailing a series of cross-border attacks launched by Pakistan and India’s successful countermeasures, codenamed Operation Sindoor. The briefing, led by the Ministry of External Affairs, included Air Force Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, Colonel Sofia Khureshi of the Indian Army, and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.

Colonel Khureshi reported that Pakistan launched attacks from 36 locations along the western border, stretching from Leh to Sir Creek. These attacks, targeting Indian military bases, including an attempted attack on the Bathinda military station, involved both kinetic and non-kinetic means. India successfully repelled these attacks using drones, identifying the Pakistani drones as Turkish-made. She further stated that 26 locations in the northern region were targeted.

Wing Commander Singh revealed that Pakistan suffered significant losses in the counter-attack, and that Pakistan used civilian airliners as cover during its attacks between Karachi and Lahore. He refuted Pakistan’s claims of closing its airspace.

Foreign Secretary Misri stated that Pakistan engaged in provocative actions, targeting several Indian cities. He underscored that Pakistan incurred heavier losses in the attacks and repeatedly violated the ceasefire. He accused Pakistan of attempting to mislead the international community and using religious sentiments for propaganda purposes, denying Pakistan’s claims that it did not target places of worship. He cited an attack on a school in Poonch, which was closed at the time of the attack, as an example of Pakistan’s attempt to disrupt communal harmony. In response, India has closed the Kartarpur Corridor and will file another complaint with the IMF regarding Pakistan’s actions. He also announced the revocation of the Indus Waters Treaty. Misri further clarified that Indian airspace remains open.
