Sat May 10 05:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Uttarakhand Suspends Char Dham Helicopter Services Amidst India-Pakistan Tension

**Dehradun, India** – Helicopter services to the Char Dham pilgrimage sites in Uttarakhand – Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri – have been temporarily suspended due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. The decision comes as both countries engage in cross-border military actions, with reports of missile exchanges and retaliatory strikes.

While India claims to be targeting military installations, Pakistan is alleged to be targeting civilian areas, including religious sites. To ensure the safety of pilgrims, the Uttarakhand government has taken the precautionary measure of halting helicopter services until further notice.

The suspension impacts the ongoing Char Dham Yatra, which commenced on April 30th (Akshaya Tritiya) with the opening of the Gangotri and Yamunotri temples. Kedarnath opened on May 2nd, and Badrinath on May 4th. Authorities have deployed 15 paramilitary companies to enhance security at the pilgrimage sites and across the state.

The India-Pakistan conflict has reportedly seen significant damage to Pakistani airbases. Despite the heightened security measures, the government cited concerns about potential risks to pilgrims as the primary reason for the helicopter service suspension. The suspension is indefinite, pending further orders from the Uttarakhand government.
