Madurai, India (May 10, 2025) – The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court dismissed a petition challenging the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings released by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA). The petitioner, C. Chellamuthu, argued that the rankings were misleading and lacked transparency, alleging that institutions submitted manipulated data without proper verification. He claimed the NBA’s methodology was undisclosed and didn’t accurately reflect academic excellence.
The court, however, deemed the petition premature, stating there was insufficient data to compare and verify the rankings’ accuracy. The judges noted that the petitioner could challenge the rankings after their publication with supporting evidence.
