**THOOTHUKUDI, TAMIL NADU –** The inaugural graduating class of the Government Model School in Vallanadu, Thoothukudi district, has achieved extraordinary success, with all 74 students gaining admission to prestigious institutions across India following the 2025-26 academic year entrance examinations.

The school, opened in 2023, has provided a comprehensive education and support system, including accommodation, meals, and resources, enabling students from disadvantaged backgrounds to achieve their academic goals. Many students secured admission before even completing their final exams. Two students, S. Abivarshini and J.E. Srither, gained acceptance to Azim Premji University in Bengaluru. Srither, whose father is a daily wage painter, secured a fully funded scholarship covering accommodation, meals, and a laptop.

The school’s success extends beyond Azim Premji University. Four students qualified for the JEE (Advanced), and others secured places at institutions including the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), the Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management, and the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. Students also gained admission through the Common Law Admission Test, the National Aptitude Test in Architecture, and the Indian Culinary Institute. The school headmaster, Ganjennthiran, noted that students are still applying to additional exams.

District Collector K. Ellambahavath highlighted the students’ achievements across various fields and emphasized the challenges in convincing parents of the school’s benefits. He praised the school’s facilities, including quality food, resources, and 24/7 internet access. The remarkable achievements of this first graduating class underscore the transformative potential of quality education and support systems in empowering students from underprivileged backgrounds.
