Wed May 07 18:00:00 UTC 2025: ## India Launches Cross-Border Missile Strikes in Retaliation for Pahalgam Massacre

**NEW DELHI** – In a dramatic escalation of tensions, the Indian armed forces conducted coordinated precision missile strikes on nine alleged terrorist targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) early Wednesday, May 7th. The operation, codenamed “Operation Sindoor,” was a joint effort by the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, launched in retaliation for the April 22nd Pahalgam massacre which claimed the lives of at least 26 civilians.

The Indian Ministry of Defence issued a statement asserting that the strikes were “focused, measured, and non-escalatory,” targeting only terrorist camps and avoiding Pakistani military installations or civilian casualties. The Ministry emphasized India’s commitment to holding those responsible for the Pahalgam attack accountable.

Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, in a press briefing, reiterated that no Pakistani military installations or civilians were targeted during the operation. However, Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) chief Maulana Masood Azhar claimed that several family members and associates were killed in a strike on the group’s headquarters in Bahawalpur.

Despite official statements, misinformation circulated online, with several images and videos from previous conflicts falsely attributed to the Indian strikes.

The Indian government’s actions mark a significant development in the ongoing conflict, raising concerns about potential further escalation. The specific locations of the targeted camps remain undisclosed, but the operation signifies a resolute response by India to the recent terrorist attack.
