Tue May 06 19:27:37 UTC 2025: ## Diarrhoea Outbreak in Andhra Pradesh Village Claims Child’s Life

**PUTTAPARTHI, Andhra Pradesh, May 7, 2025** – A 10-year-old girl died from diarrhoea in Gollahatti village, Andhra Pradesh, on Tuesday, triggering concerns about a potential outbreak. At least 23 other villagers have also fallen ill, with 10 hospitalized. Authorities suspect contaminated water from an agricultural well is the source of the illness.

Symptoms began appearing four days prior to the first official report on Monday. The girl’s death occurred after a delay in seeking proper medical attention. Despite being advised to take her to a primary health centre, her parents initially consulted a private practitioner before taking her to a hospital where she succumbed to her illness.

In response, the District Medical and Health Officer (DM&HO), Fairoza Begum, has established a health camp in the village to provide treatment and distribute oral rehydration salts (ORS). The camp will continue for several days. Water samples have been collected for testing. The DM&HO stated that health officials are closely monitoring the situation and working to contain the outbreak.
