**New Delhi, May 6, 2025** – Union Home Minister Amit Shah has directed Delhi police to boost the conviction rate for heinous crimes by 20%. This directive came during a Monday meeting reviewing the implementation of three new criminal laws – the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam – which came into effect last July.

The meeting, attended by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Lieutenant-Governor V.K. Saxena, and Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora, focused on the laws’ effectiveness. Mr. Shah emphasized accountability for those responsible for implementing the new laws and stressed the importance of consistent monitoring of chargesheet filings within 60-90 days. He also called for expedited appointments within the Directorate of Prosecution. The review covered various provisions related to police, prisons, courts, prosecution, and forensics.
