**Atlanta, GA –** The Los Angeles Dodgers announced a roster move Saturday, recalling highly touted South Korean infielder Hyeseong Kim from Triple-A Oklahoma City while placing second baseman Tommy Edman on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to Wednesday.
Edman, who’s been a key contributor this season with eight home runs and 24 RBIs, is sidelined with a sore right ankle. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts stated that Edman experienced lingering soreness after attempting to run on Friday and will require at least the minimum 10-day stay on the IL.
Kim, who signed a three-year, $12.5 million contract with the Dodgers in January, made his major league debut Saturday night as a late-game defensive replacement during the team’s 10-3 victory over the Atlanta Braves. While his immediate role is unclear, Roberts indicated that Kim’s versatility – capable of playing multiple infield and outfield positions, as well as pinch-running – factored into the decision. Roberts noted that the move is likely a temporary one.
In 28 games at Triple-A, Kim posted a .252 batting average with five home runs, 19 RBIs, and 13 stolen bases. His arrival fills the void left by Edman’s injury, providing the Dodgers with much needed depth in their infield.
