**KOCHIA, May 6, 2025** – A 12-year-old boy, Dulkibin, drowned in the Periyar River on Monday afternoon. The incident occurred at the Laksham Veedu ghat while Dulkibin was swimming with three other children, including two siblings and a cousin. The group, visiting Mekalady for summer vacation, was caught in strong undercurrents around 4:30 PM.
While the other children were rescued by their mother and local residents, Dulkibin was swept away. His body was recovered around 7:15 PM by fire and rescue services personnel and local residents. Dulkibin’s father, Mangadan Shinas, works in Kannur, where the family resides.
