**KOCHI, Kerala, May 5, 2025** – A protest meeting held in Kochi on Sunday condemned the recently passed Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, alleging it violates the constitutional rights of the Muslim minority community. Organized by the Jamiyyathul Ulama Coordination Committee, Ernakulam, the meeting drew speakers who claimed the legislation will lead to the seizure of hundreds of mosques, madrasas, and burial grounds, ultimately threatening the community’s existence.
The meeting, presided over by I.B. Usman Faizi and featuring a keynote address by Syed Ibrahim Khaleel Bukhari, resolved to oppose the Act democratically. Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama president Syed Mohammed Jifri Muthukoya Thangal inaugurated the event, which saw participants holding the national flag. The protesters argue that the new law amounts to the alienation of waqf properties by the Union government.
