**Ahmedabad, India** – Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) pacer Jaydev Unadkat has attributed his team’s disappointing IPL campaign to inconsistent bowling and challenging pitch conditions. Following a 38-run defeat against Gujarat Titans on Friday, SRH’s playoff hopes are virtually extinguished.
Unadkat pointed to a lack of collective bowling effort as a key factor in their struggles. “For a team to do well, you need three or four bowlers contributing consistently,” he explained. “This year, when two bowlers perform well, the others haven’t been able to support them.” He highlighted the importance of partnerships in bowling, similar to batting, emphasizing the pressure created when both ends aren’t performing effectively.
SRH’s failure to contain Gujarat Titans’ top order, who amassed 224/6, further underscored their bowling woes. While Unadkat himself took three wickets in the final over, he acknowledged the team’s inability to execute plans and restrict the runs, ultimately conceding that SRH “haven’t been the best bowling side in the tournament.”
Unadkat also cited changing pitch conditions as a contributing factor. He noted the difference between this year’s more challenging pitches and last year’s flatter surfaces, impacting their ability to maintain the momentum that carried them to the final in 2022. He added that while swing bowling was effective last year, this season required more variations. Poor fielding, including dropped catches and misfields, also contributed to their loss against the Titans.
In contrast, Gujarat Titans’ Gerald Coetzee praised his team’s consistent batting performance, highlighting their disciplined approach and effective shot selection. SRH, currently second from the bottom with three wins and seven losses, will need a significant turnaround to salvage their season.
