Sun May 04 17:56:38 UTC 2025: **UK Arrests Eight in Two Separate Iran-Linked National Security Investigations**

London, UK – British authorities have arrested eight men, seven of whom are Iranian nationals, in two separate investigations linked to alleged threats against national security. The arrests, announced Sunday by the Metropolitan Police, come amidst heightened alert following a warning last year from MI5 about potentially lethal Iran-backed plots.

Five men – four Iranian nationals and one individual of undetermined nationality – were arrested Saturday on suspicion of “preparation of a terrorist act” in London, Swindon, and Greater Manchester. This operation involved a suspected plot targeting a specific location. The four Iranians were detained under the Terrorism Act, while the fifth man was held under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act.

Separately, three Iranian nationals were arrested in London under the 2023 National Security Act, which grants expanded powers to counter hostile state actions. Police emphasized these arrests were unrelated to the first operation.

Home Secretary Yvette Cooper described the threats as “serious,” highlighting the government’s collaborative efforts with police and intelligence agencies. The arrests follow MI5’s 2022 revelation of twenty Iran-backed plots posing “potentially lethal threats” to the UK. Recent incidents, including the conviction of an Austrian national for hostile reconnaissance against Iran International and the stabbing of an Iran International journalist, have further fueled concerns.

Iran has consistently denied any involvement in plots against the UK, issuing formal protests to the British government. Despite these denials, the UK remains on high alert, actively investigating and disrupting suspected Iranian operations.
