BEIJING (May 4, 2025) – At least three people died and 60 were hospitalized after two passenger boats capsized in Qianxi City, Guizhou Province, southwestern China, on Sunday. Around 70 people were thrown into the water when the boats overturned on a river. As of Sunday evening, 14 people remained missing, prompting Chinese leader Xi Jinping to order an all-out search and rescue effort. This incident follows a similar tragedy in Hunan province just over two months ago, where a boat collision killed 11. Rescue operations are currently underway.
