Mon May 05 16:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Severe Storms to Slam Central Texas Starting Tonight
**AUSTIN, Texas —** After a quiet weekend, Central Texas is bracing for a return of severe weather, beginning tonight and lasting into Tuesday. The National Weather Service has issued a Level 2 out of 5 risk for severe storms across much of the KVUE viewing area.
Scattered showers are expected today, with a chance of isolated severe storms this afternoon. However, the main threat arrives tonight and Tuesday, fueled by an upper-level low-pressure system moving in from Arizona.
The Hill Country is expected to see the first severe storms tonight, with the worst weather impacting the I-35 corridor during Tuesday morning’s commute. The storms are then projected to move eastward into the Coastal Plains by late morning or early afternoon. However, forecasters caution that the timing could shift later in the day, depending on overnight developments.
All types of severe weather are possible, but large hail is considered the biggest threat, with a 15% chance of hail exceeding 2 inches in diameter across much of the region. An isolated tornado threat also exists due to the spinning motion in the atmosphere created by the approaching low-pressure system.
Rain chances will decrease after Tuesday. While a few storms are possible on Wednesday, the severe weather risk is expected to be significantly lower. A dry and sunny Mother’s Day weekend is currently forecast. For up-to-the-minute updates, download the KVUE app.
