**NEW DELHI, May 5, 2025** – Following a deadly terrorist attack in the Kashmir Valley last week, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has offered to mediate between India and Pakistan to de-escalate tensions. Lavrov spoke separately with both Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Pakistani Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar on Sunday, urging a political settlement to the conflict.

The April 22nd attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, resulted in the deaths of at least 26 people. Both India and Pakistan claim Kashmir, leading to numerous conflicts over the years. The Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized Russia’s willingness to facilitate a resolution if both Islamabad and New Delhi express a mutual desire.

Russia, a long-time arms supplier to India and a close ally since the Soviet era, has a history of involvement in regional affairs. This latest offer underscores the ongoing complexities of the Kashmir dispute and Russia’s continued role in the region.
