**DHARAMSALA, INDIA** – Punjab Kings (PBKS) have signed Australian all-rounder Mitch Owen as a replacement for the injured Glenn Maxwell for the remainder of IPL 2025. The 23-year-old will join the team for INR 3 crore (approximately $375,000 USD).
Owen, a Hobart Hurricanes star, caught the eye with a stunning century (108 off 42 balls) in the BBL14 final, helping his team to victory. His impressive BBL performance, which saw him finish as the tournament’s top scorer with 452 runs, earned him the IPL call-up. He boasts a prolific T20 career, with 646 runs at a strike rate of 184 in 34 matches. Currently playing in the Pakistan Super League, Owen is averaging a strike rate of over 200.
Maxwell, who suffered a fractured finger, had a disappointing season with only 48 runs in seven matches before his injury. His replacement, Owen, will bolster PBKS’s middle order as they aim for their first playoff appearance in 11 years. The move reunites Owen with Ricky Ponting, PBKS head coach and Hobart Hurricanes head of strategy, who has firsthand experience of Owen’s talent.
PBKS, led by Shreyas Iyer, will face the Lucknow Super Giants in their first match of the season in Dharamsala on Sunday. Owen’s explosive batting style is expected to provide a significant boost to their playoff push.
