**Chennai, India** – The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have signed Gujarat wicketkeeper-batter Urvil Patel as a replacement for Vansh Bedi, who suffered a ligament tear in his left ankle. Bedi, who was poised to make his IPL debut, was injured just before a match against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Patel, 26, is a rising star in domestic cricket, having gained national recognition for his blistering 28-ball century in the 2024-25 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. His impressive performance in the tournament, which included 315 runs in six matches with two centuries, showcased his aggressive batting style and wicketkeeping abilities. He has a total of 1162 runs in 47 T20 matches. While he was part of the Gujarat Titans squad in IPL 2023, he didn’t feature in any games.
Patel joins CSK for his base price of Rs 30 lakh, becoming the third injury replacement for the team this season. He follows Ayush Mhatre (replacing Ruturaj Gaikwad) and Dewald Brevis (replacing Gurjapneet Singh).
CSK, currently languishing at the bottom of the IPL 2025 points table with only two wins from eleven matches, are already eliminated from playoff contention. The team will use the remaining three matches to evaluate their bench strength and potentially give Patel his first IPL appearance.
