**Cannes, France** – Spike Lee’s highly anticipated crime thriller, “Highest 2 Lowest,” is set to make its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival later this month. A24 and Apple have released the first trailer for the film, which stars Denzel Washington, A$AP Rocky, Ilfenesh Hadera, Jeffrey Wright, Dean Winters, John Douglas Thompson, and rapper Ice Spice. This marks the fifth collaboration between Lee and Washington.
Loosely based on Akira Kurosawa’s “High and Low” (itself a reinterpretation of Ed McBain’s “The King’s Ransom”), the film explores a businessman’s moral dilemma between career advancement and saving a child’s life. Lee has cited Kurosawa’s influence on his filmmaking, drawing parallels between the narrative structures of “Rashomon” and his own “She’s Gotta Have It.”
“Highest 2 Lowest,” written by William Alan Fox, will hit theaters on August 22nd and stream on Apple TV+ beginning September 5th.
