Mon May 05 13:58:44 UTC 2025: ## Farmer Killed in Gaur Attack in Karnataka
**Sakleshpur, Karnataka, May 5, 2025** – A 70-year-old farmer, Thimmappa, was killed by an Indian gaur in Sakleshpur taluk on Sunday night, prompting protests from local residents. The incident occurred near Kallahalli, an area known for gaur activity, though attacks on humans are reportedly rare.
Thimmappa’s family discovered his body in a shrub after he failed to return home from work. His body showed signs of injury consistent with a gaur attack. He is survived by his wife and two children.
Following the tragedy, residents staged a protest, expressing their anger and concern. Sakleshpur MLA Cement Manju visited the family to offer condolences.
The Deputy Conservator of Forests of the Hassan division, Sourabh Kumar, confirmed the gaur’s presence in the area, stating that while this was an unusual incident, the department has already provided the victim’s family with a compensation cheque of ₹20 lakh.
The Hassan district has a history of human-wildlife conflict, particularly with elephants, resulting in several human fatalities in the past. This recent gaur attack highlights the ongoing challenges of coexisting with wildlife in the region.
