Mon May 05 14:01:10 UTC 2025: **Kerala Congress Factionalism Explodes into Open Revolt, Claims CPI(M)**

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, May 5, 2025 – The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] has alleged a major rift within the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), triggered by a purported attempt by the national Congress leadership to oust KPCC president K. Sudhakaran. CPI(M) State secretary M.V. Govindan stated that the move has met with strong resistance within the KPCC, exacerbating existing factional divisions.

Sudhakaran himself has publicly accused a faction within the party of a conspiracy to sideline him. Govindan highlighted this as evidence of deep-seated divisions within the Congress, contradicting claims of party unity. He further claimed that other Congress leaders, including K. Muraleedharan and Shashi Tharoor, oppose Sudhakaran’s removal, with Muraleedharan even criticizing the potential replacements as “nobodies.”

Govindan predicts that this internal conflict will severely damage the Congress’s prospects in the upcoming 2025 local body elections and the 2026 Assembly polls, calling their proclaimed unity a “mirage.”

In a separate development, Govindan accused BJP State president Rajeev Chandrasekhar of leveraging his position to politicize the official commissioning of the Vizhinjam International Seaport, claiming Chandrasekhar sought an official invitation through the Prime Minister’s Office and engaged in overt BJP promotion at the event. Govindan emphasized the Kerala government’s significant financial contribution to the project.

Finally, the CPI(M) announced plans to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Emergency on June 29th with various programs honoring those who resisted the Congress government’s actions during that period.
