BRASILIA, May 5, 2025 – Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro was released from the DF Star Hospital in Brasilia on Sunday, following a three-week stay for abdominal surgery. Upon his discharge, Bolsonaro renewed his calls for amnesty for supporters imprisoned for their involvement in the January 2023 storming of government buildings.

Bolsonaro, who underwent his sixth surgery related to a 2018 stabbing, claims the rioters’ actions were not violent and warrants amnesty. He plans to participate in a “Peaceful March for Humanitarian Amnesty” on Wednesday, despite his surgeon advising against it due to his ongoing recovery.
