Sun May 04 21:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Aston Martin’s Jessica Hawkins Champions F1 Academy’s Role in Women’s Motorsport
**Miami, FL** – Jessica Hawkins, Aston Martin’s Head of F1 Academy and former W Series driver, highlighted the crucial role of the all-female junior racing series at the recent Miami Grand Prix. Hawkins, who made history in 2023 as the first woman in five years to test a modern Formula 1 car, emphasized that F1 Academy isn’t aiming to be a female version of Formula 1, but rather a crucial stepping stone for women in motorsport.
The series, which boasts 18 drivers competing across seven races this season, provides valuable experience and prepares female racers for future advancements in their careers. Hawkins, who also serves as a driver ambassador for Aston Martin, works closely with Aston Martin’s F1 Academy driver, Tina Hausmann, providing support and guidance.
This initiative comes at a time when Formula 1 is recognizing its growing female fanbase (41%). The F1 Academy has also attracted sponsors from the beauty and fashion industry, further highlighting the evolving landscape of the sport. Hawkins recently announced a partnership with British skincare brand ELEMIS, further demonstrating this trend.
While the Miami race weekend was unfortunately cut short due to rain, the F1 Academy season will continue in June at the Canadian Grand Prix. Hawkins’s role exemplifies the increasing support from F1 teams for initiatives designed to increase female representation and opportunity within motorsport. The series aims to address the historical lack of female representation in Formula 1, with the last woman to compete in the top tier being Giovanna Amati in 1992.
