**Abu Dhabi/New Delhi –** An Air India flight from Delhi to Tel Aviv was diverted to Abu Dhabi on Sunday after a missile attack near Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv. Air India flight AI139, a Boeing 787, was approximately an hour from its destination when it was forced to reroute due to the security incident. All passengers and crew landed safely in Abu Dhabi.
The airline has suspended all flights to and from Tel Aviv until May 6th as a precautionary measure, citing the safety of its passengers and staff as its top priority. Air India is providing affected passengers with alternative travel arrangements, including rescheduling options and full refunds.
The incident, which involved a missile fired by Yemen’s Houthi rebels, caused significant disruption at Ben Gurion Airport, leading to other airlines, including Delta, Ryanair, Air France, Lufthansa Group, and SWISS, also suspending flights to Tel Aviv until at least May 6th. These airlines are also offering passengers rebooking and refund options.
The missile landed near the airport, causing a visible plume of smoke and prompting a security response. Air India’s decision to divert and temporarily suspend operations underscores the heightened security concerns following the attack.
