**Karur, India (May 5, 2025)** – A 17-year-old boy was fatally stabbed during a temple festival in Kulithalai, Karur district, on Sunday night. R. Shyam Sundar, a Class 12 student, died after an altercation with another group of men.
Police report that the incident occurred during a “Poothattu” procession at the Sri Mariyamman Temple. Shyam and two friends, J. Damodaran and R. Vasanth, confronted B. Nagendran and K. Logeswaran, who were allegedly dancing inebriatedly in front of the procession. A verbal argument escalated into a physical fight, during which Nagendran allegedly stabbed Shyam and his friends.
Shyam succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital. Damodaran and Vasanth sustained injuries and are receiving treatment. Police have detained four individuals in connection with the murder and are investigating the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
