Sun May 04 15:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Lucknow Super Giants Suffer Crushing Defeat Against Punjab Kings, Playoff Hopes Dented
**Dharmashala, India** – Rishabh Pant’s Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) suffered a heavy 37-run defeat against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 54th match of IPL 2025 on Sunday. PBKS posted a formidable 236/5, powered by a 91-run knock from Prabhsimran Singh who was later named Player of the Match. This victory propelled PBKS to second place in the points table with 15 points, while LSG slipped to seventh with 10 points after their fourth loss in five matches.
Prabhsimran’s innings, studded with seven sixes and six fours, proved decisive. His multiple partnerships were key to Punjab’s massive total. In contrast, LSG’s top order crumbled, with Mitchell Marsh failing to score, and Aiden Markram and Nicholas Pooran managing only 13 and 6 runs respectively. Arshdeep Singh’s impressive three-wicket haul in the powerplay further hampered LSG’s chase.
Despite a late flourish from Ayush Badoni (74) and Abdul Samad (45), who put on an 81-run partnership for the sixth wicket, LSG fell short, managing 199/7.
Pant admitted to being deeply disappointed, particularly about a crucial dropped catch. He acknowledged the team’s poor start with the ball and the inability to chase down the substantial target. However, he remains optimistic about their playoff chances, stating that winning their next three matches could turn the tide. He emphasized the need for greater contributions from the middle order and a more consistent performance overall. The loss leaves LSG’s playoff hopes hanging in the balance, with their fate now dependent on their performance in the remaining games.
