Sun May 04 15:30:00 UTC 2025: **Punjab Kings Defeat Lucknow Super Giants by 37 Runs in IPL Thriller**
Dharmashala, May 4 (PTI) – Punjab Kings secured a resounding 37-run victory over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in a crucial Indian Premier League (IPL) match on Sunday, bolstering their playoff hopes. Young opener Prabhsimran Singh’s impressive 91 and a three-wicket haul by Arshdeep Singh were key to Punjab’s success.
Punjab Kings posted a challenging 236/5, fueled by Prabhsimran’s 48-ball knock featuring six fours and seven sixes. Captain Shreyas Iyer (45) and Josh Inglis (30) also contributed significantly. Arshdeep’s exceptional performance in the powerplay, claiming three wickets for just 16 runs, dismantled LSG’s top order. Despite a late fightback from Ayush Badoni (74) and Abdul Samad (45), who shared an 81-run partnership, LSG fell short, managing only 199/7 in their 20 overs.
Arshdeep’s early strikes, dismissing Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram in the third over, set the tone for Punjab’s dominance. He also accounted for Nicholas Pooran. Captain Rishabh Pant (18) and David Miller (11) were other notable LSG dismissals, falling prey to Azmatullah Omarzai’s bowling.
While Prabhsimran narrowly missed a century, his innings was instrumental in Punjab’s strong total. The team’s aggressive batting approach saw 16 sixes, 13 of which were hit off pace bowlers. Mayank Yadav, conceding 60 runs, was particularly expensive. For LSG, Akash Singh and Digvijay Rathi took two wickets each.
This win propels Punjab Kings to second place in the IPL standings with 15 points from seven wins, trailing only Royal Challengers Bangalore. LSG remains in seventh place with 10 points.
